Website Updates

Colecovision, Vectrex, Videopac/Odyssey II, and Virtual Boy games videos are all now uploaded and online for you to view.

That brings this site entirely in line with what was already on the retro gaming section of Benway's World. Everything that I add from now on will be entirely new, and won't have been featured on that site already.

There will be a break in updates here for a day or so while I take down the duplicate pages from Benway's World, and redirect their urls to the relevant pages on this site.

Atari Games Video Clips

Work continues.

The Atari Video Games Clips are now all live, and include a couple of vids what weren't included on the Benway's World gaming videos section. Those are Super Cobra and Q*Bert.

More coming very soon.

Retro Gamer chat room

I had planned for a while to add a retro gamers chat room to this website, but eventually decided it would be just too time consuming.

However, I have discovered the Retro Gamer magazine irc chatroom.
So, if you use mirc, pirch, chatzilla, or any other irc software, you may like to check out #retrogamer on quakenet.

First Post

First Post

Firstly, welcome to my new blog on my new site.

Retro Gaming Collector is pretty much what it says in the title... a website by an English collector of retro games and gaming systems, designed to appeal to people with a similar interest.

Some readers will know me already as Benway, from my other websites, most notably Benway's World, and will no doubt realise that so far, most of the content on this site is simply a transferral of material about my retro collection from that site, to a new dedicated website.
Fear not... things will expand hugely over the coming weeks and months, and should entirely justify the move to a dedicated new site.

Other visitors may know me as SteveBenway on YouTube, where my number of subscribers is gradually growing, and where I've met some incredibly cool, friendly and knowledgeable people.

So, where do things stand with this site right now, and where will they go?

At the moment, I'm still in the process of moving all of the content over from my Benway's World site... most is here already, but the videos are taking a while, as there are a lot to move, and then there are several hundred more video pages to do from scratch, embedding all of my YouTube gaming content on them.
There are likely to still be some dead links for a few days, but I'm working on all of that as fast as I can.

The obvious benefit of having my gaming videos embedded on this site, when compared to simply browsing them on YouTube, is that they will be separated into areas for different gaming systems, instead of the viewer having to trawl through dozens of different pages in the hope of finding a specific game or system.

Sections of the website also still not yet live are the "Other Collectors" and "Forum" areas.

The "Other Collectors" area will consists of videos by other YouTube users who wish to have their retro gaming collection videos embedded on this site, along with links pointing directly to their profiles.
I'm not yet sure if this will consist of one list like page, with all the videos on one page, or if I will do a separate page for each video. It probably depends on how many people wish to join in.
I won't be messaging anyone directly, to ask if I may embed their collection videos, but at such time as I'm ready, will do an announcement video, asking anyone who wishes to have their collection videos included to send me a message via YouTube.
I don't expect to start work on this section for a couple of months, at least, as I still have a huge amount of work to do on the gaming videos, and more importantly, on the System Information sections for each of the gaming systems in my collection.

The final section, which isn't likely to go live for several months is the forum. Again, I have so much other material to complete that this must take a back seat... and then I must learn some MySQL and whatever else, just to get the forum functioning.

So there we have it. Things are still very much under construction, but the basics are falling into place quite nicely.

As for this blog... I'll largely be using it to keep visitors informed of new content on the main site, and to report on new additions to the collection itself.
There will probably be posts regarding other interesting news, sites, or any other interesting information I stumble across while surfing the web too... so expect a fairly relaxed, or even haphazard approach.

Thanks for coming to take a look, and I hope you enjoy my site :-)
